1 December 2014 – Lliber to Senija

Paul twisted his ankle on last week’s walk, and we had planned an easy walk on good paths from Parcent to Jalon on our own this week.  However Pat cancelled the Eye of Montgo walk due to heavy rain.   She arranged a short local walk from Lliber to Senija instead, which we joined.   The group got lost and we left them when they headed uphill on a very poor path.   We returned to the planned route and walked to Senija on our own.

After an early lunch in Senija we set off back to Lliber.   Just after leaving the village we spotted the group climbing the hill opposite towards The Cross above Senija.  We carried on back to Lliber and left them to their extended alternative walk.

I understand that next week’s walk will be Carrascal from Parcent.   I do not have meeting arrangements, so anyone interested should contact Pat.   We will not be walking with the group again until January.  So for details of any walks over Christmas and the New Year again contact Pat.

As this will be our last walk with the group for this year we would both like to wish all of the group, both past and present, a very Happy Christmas and lots of good walking in the New Year. 

24 November 2014 – Segaria

Fifteen of us for today’s walk.   Including Dave and Sue who have a week off from their “day job” of running mountain walking holidays!

Segaria is pretty impressive, even close up.   It’s a long walk, and the paths are not the easiest 

We took a different route this time, with an easy start along the water channels

In the distance we spotted a goat herder, who looks more like a "goat herderess” (lady goat herder) in the close up

The grey skies were an improvement on the heavy rain forecast

It was not long before we started to climb......

----- and climb some more

We eventually reached a suitable spot for our well deserved banana break

We were soon off climbing again, with Sylvia setting a good pace

This part of the walk is very familiar, as it is part of our old favourite “Benimeli Aerials” walk

The views from the top are pretty impressive, but we did not stop to admire them

we had to tackle the steep descent to our lunch spot

On previous Segaria circuit this was a very steep climb

Today it was an equally steep descent, with Mike offering an arm to slow the uncontrolled run down.

What a perfect lunch spot, not only tables but seats also.  And we even had a musical bird in the nearby trees

It was a long walk back, and Sylvia was kind enough to provide an unexpected detour.   David claimed that the walk was only nine kilometres.   But it was a long six hours over one of the more difficult walks we have attempted

Next week will be The Eye of Montgo.  Another climb, but much shorter than Segaria.   Meet at El Gaucho, on the Jesus Probre to Javea road.    Just past the bins on the right hand.   Meet at 10am and drive to the start of the walk.
