Only nine of us for the first walk of 2014, despite
excellent weather. This may be because there
was some confusion about today’s walk.
The first walk was to be next week, but David suggested that we walk
today as most of us were back in Spain after the Christmas break.
Peter and Rosemary had both received new walking boots from
Santa, and were very pleased to show them off.
Both were walking in them for the first time, so make the
best of the pristine look – it will not last long.
We had expected it to be chilly at the top, but in fact it
proved to be warm enough to be comfortable in shirt sleeves – at least for
Peter. Pat seems to require some extra
clothing and a warm drink.
The views from the Castell are pretty impressive, and the
warm weather and blue skies made us all appreciate how lucky we are to be able
to enjoy such walking conditions in early January. Particularly those of us who had recently
returned from the UK.
Wendy had the makings of a heavy cold, and kept sought a
spot away from the crowd to avoid passing it on to the rest of us.
Pat, Wendy and Jan prepare for the return journey
The great advantage of this walk is that we have done most
of the climbing when we arrive at the Castell for lunch. The return journey is mostly downhill.
It took us six hours to complete the walk, which is longer
than we would normally do for the first walk after a long break. Quite a few had aching legs by the time we
reached the bar at the end of the walk.
Monday 13 January
2014
Next week’s walk is Puig Campana, which involves a longer
drive than usual. Meet at the Lidl car park
in Benissa at the earlier time of 9am.
We will travel to the start of the walk in convoy.
